Delegating Tasks>>

When we think of delegating tasks we normally don't tie it to web mastering. Most sites are run by one person, and are normally updated once a week. This type of work is fine when your site first starts. As it grows you learn how to update it, which sections to work on first, what to update first, and so on. This is one small part of delegating your tasks. Once you finish reading this article you'll have a basic understanding on how to delegate any given task concerning your web site.

Running a site; small or large, isn't easy. It takes time, patients, hard work, and dedication to make a site successful. Many things are involved in running and maintain a web site. Learning how to stream line these tasks is the key to a successful site.

I'll go through a basic run down of what my day normally consists of.

Check Email
Checking my emails is very important, so it's first. It's always on the top of my list, that's normally what gets my day going. I always have something in my email box that points me to the direction of which my day will go. I go through my emails and delete all the junk and spam. Then once that is finished, I proceed to read the important ones and respond if necessary.

Using a good email program helps allot with this sort of task. Currently I use Outlook Express to check all my emails. Outlook Express allows you to set rules for just about anything. Rules allow you to send email to certain folders, delete them, or not download them at all. It all depends on what you'd like to do with them. The next tutorial I'll work on, will explain how to use rules in Outlook Express.

Update Sites
I run a site that requires me to update news at least once a day. So once I finish with all my emails, I start checking the sites I cover for anything new. If I find something new, I'll post it to my site. This doesn't take very long at all, and allows me to keep my site updated daily. This is something small, but helps out allot in the long run. Most people just like to read what's new and they don't want to search through 10 - 20 sites everyday to find out what's going on. This is where my site comes in. I pool all these news posts pertaining to one subject together on my site. So users won't have to search the net for them.

Other Updating Tasks
Then I proceed to update my other sites. Most of which don't require me to update content, or news. But mainly SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and marketing types of updates. So I begin work on these. I normally spend a few hours doing this, as this is one of the main factors that determine if my sites will become popular or not.

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and Marketing is a very useful skill to acquire as a web master. Trying to explain this would take up way to much time and space in this tutorial. So I'll work on a starter tutorial on SEO and Marketing. Basically it pertains to getting your site linked high in search engines. Most of this you can do for free. You can do a search on Google.com for SEO tutorials and find plenty of free tutorials explaining the basics of it.

Emails
Now we're back to the emails. If there were any emails that required any attention, I go back to these and work on them according to urgency. The most important come first, then on down the line. I also check for any new emails. Just incase something new that requires my attentions has came in. I normally check my email 5 - 6 times a day.

Other Projects
Most of my day is complete. Once I'm finished with the above I move to other things. Depending on what I'd like to work on depends on where I go from here.

This was just a basic run down of what I do every day. Since this is what I do for a living, I've learned to basically stream line everything. This way I get more work completed, and do it in less amount of time.

This may not seem like an important subject to deal with. But for any webmaster that has been doing it for some time, they understand that delegating your time and tasks, is the most important thing you can do as a webmaster. This may not be the same steps you take for delegating all your tasks for any given day. But hopefully this helps to give you a general idea of how my day goes.
